Why Email Continuity is Essential for Your Business!



Email Continuity from AppRiver gives you peace of mind by allowing you to receive email even when your own mail servers are down. AppRiver maintains the last 30 days of incoming email for your organization for easy access during natural disasters, unplanned outages or even routine maintenance.

This mail is accessible through Outlook Web Access (OWA). Customers don't receive annoying bounce messages and you don't have to worry about losing important information. Email Continuity is always on, so there is no start-up process if your mail flow is interrupted.


No additional hardware or software required to ensure email access is always available, regardless of situation (i.e. natural disaster, hardware failure, maintenance) 

  • Includes SecureTide spam and virus service

  • Cannot be combined with AppRiver Secure Hosted Exchange mailbox
  • ECS domains consist of Users and Groups only

o Must be pre-defined to benefit from the 30-day buffer of messages

  • Address books are not utilized with ECS domains, so the following are not supported:

o Contacts

o Shared Mailboxes

o Resource Mailboxes

o Public Folders

  • Queued mail may only be released once

o Onus on customer to ensure their server is fully operational again prior to requesting queued mail release

  • Only offers OWA, POP and IMAP access to mail; MAPI not supported
  • ActiveSync not supported

AppRiver’s ECS provides failsafe protection for your email service at all times – so your email is always accessible. If your primary mail server experiences an outage, all inbound messages are spooled at the spam filter until the primary mail server is back online. During the outage, ECS users can access the last 30 days of inbound message and continue to send and receive messages from their ECS mailbox. Please consult our Phenomenal Care team with any specific questions you may have about AppRiver’s ECS and your specific situation.

Can I enable ECS for a few users, or am I required to enable ECS for all my users?

As an administrator, you can decide which users you want to have ECS and which users you want using our Advanced Email Security only.


Does my internal mail get copied along with the rest?

No. The server does not send the internal mail beyond your mail server, so AppRiver never gets a copy to include in ECS.


How do I release a blocked email?

You can release quarantined mailby logging into your Customer Portal, or by selecting messages from your daily Held Spam Report.


How do I access ECS when my email goes down?

Users can access their email via ECS through the Outlook Web Access (OWA) portal within the Customer Portal (CP).


Will my calendar and contacts synchronize to AppRiver ECS?

No. Contact and calendar information is not included in ECS synchronization.


Is there a limit to the amount of email storage I have while using my ECS?

No. AppRiver provides unlimited storage for the previous 30 days of messages.
