Mike Murdoch is an innovator, an entrepreneur and a leader in the highly competitive high-tech marketplace. He serves as CEO of AppRiver, a company he co-founded in 2002, which is now recognized as one of the leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) firms for businesses worldwide.

With more than 25 years of business and product development experience, Murdoch has led AppRiver's explosive growth in the e-mail and Web security market segments. AppRiver's rapid rise to industry-leader status, along with its award-winning service, led Ernst & Young to name Murdoch its Florida Entrepreneur of the Year® winner for 2009.

Mike studied business at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, USA.

A pioneer in the cloud services industry, Joel Smith co-founded AppRiver in 2002 – back when the virtual delivery of services was virtually unheard of in the SMB market.  Since beginning as “two men and a spam filter,” AppRiver has emerged as a leading provider of cloud-based email and Web security services worldwide with Joel leading the way as the Chief Technology Officer.

Joel is a serial entrepreneur who previously launched and ran the successful Web hosting and app development company Plugit.com. He continues the push to develop new services and capabilities that keep AppRiver positioned on the technology curve with the ultimate goal to make life simpler and easier for small and medium sized businesses.

Scott Cutler - Chief Operating Officer

Scott Cutler is a seasoned and proven leader in the high-tech industry who now serves as AppRiver's Chief Operating Officer. He oversees the development, design, and overall improvement of AppRiver's e-mail and Web security solutions.

Before taking on his challenging role at AppRiver, Scott was Director of North American Sales, Eastern Division at Connected Corporation, a leading provider of storage software for automated protection, archiving and recovery of distributed data.

Scott received a BA in Economics and a BSc in Physical Science from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.

Kevin Hatch

A veteran accounting professional with more than a decade of executive experience, Kevin Hatch serves as Chief Financial Officer for AppRiver. In this role, he is responsible for managing the company’s financial performance and helping accelerate the company’s growth and expansion.

Before coming to AppRiver, Kevin served as finance director for Marlin Operations Group where he focused on conducting due diligence and lending his financial expertise to portfolio companies. While there, he also gained valuable experience working in the technology sector.

Kevin studied Business Management and Accounting at Fort Lewis College, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

With 20 years of transformative marketing success, Cleve Bellar joins the AppRiver executive team as the company’s first Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Cleve brings with him extensive leadership experience and a proven track record of driving compelling digital brand experiences and disrupting industries for next-gen growth.

Before coming to AppRiver, Cleve served as CMO of ValueInsured where he played a pivotal role in growing its national partner network and securing the company’s late-stage funding by propelling the growth company to a top-of-mind, frequently-cited industry thought-leader within two years.

Cleve has an MBA in marketing from Southern Methodist University.

With 20 years of transformative marketing success, Cleve Bellar joins the AppRiver executive team as the company’s first Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Cleve brings with him extensive leadership experience and a proven track record of driving compelling digital brand experiences and disrupting industries for next-gen growth.

Chris Essex is a transformational sales leader with demonstrated success in building high-capacity, growth-oriented teams across diverse markets. Chris brings more than 15 years of channel and sales leadership experience in the high-tech industry with an emphasis on SaaS and security solutions. While developing the channel and direct sales teams in North America with his management team, Chris will be responsible for expanding channel and sales growth in existing and new markets worldwide.

Before coming to AppRiver, Chris served as Vice President for Forcepoint (formerly Websense), a cybersecurity company based in Austin, Texas. He holds a Bachelors of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Chris Essex is a transformational sales leader with demonstrated success in building high-capacity, growth-oriented teams across diverse markets. Chris brings more than 15 years of channel and sales leadership experience in the high-tech industry with an emphasis on SaaS and security solutions. While developing the channel and direct sales teams in North America with his management team, Chris will be responsible for expanding channel and sales growth in existing and new markets worldwide.
Doug Coleman - Vice President of Finance

Doug Coleman has built his career on helping businesses use technology to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. One of his first big wins was designing, developing and deploying all of the point-of-sale and integrated accounting systems that enabled a small Atlanta-based retailer to grow from 16 stores to more than 600 locations nationwide.

In 2012, Doug came to AppRiver in the role of controller and in 2017 took on the position of Vice President of Finance, with responsibility for helping oversee all of the company’s accounting and financial management for both the US and EMEA operations.

Doug holds a degree in accounting from Clemson University.
